we all bleed the same is a quilt exploring the strength—and the necessity— of diversity when creating wholes. Referencing an old Nova Scotian quilt design from the early 1900’s, we all bleed the same was born out of a rebellion against essentialist ideas and was created in support of ideals of feminism, craft and community. The natural colours used for the quilt top— sourced from avocado and madder and altered through different post-dye mordant baths— evoke fleshy undertones: a range of light and dark shades that together make up a whole. The quilt features both traditional and more modern hand-quilting techniques.
