A couple of offending un-comfy jeans got what was coming to them this christmas. And, boy! I do have a lot more affection for them now in their altered state. Is there anything worse than jeans that don't fit right? Sticking in all the wrong places, tight but still slipping down your hips, baggy thighs with tight ankles? My satisfaction at tearing these jeans to pieces was immense.
I had my mother-in-law Joyce for secret santa this year and made her this pillowcase, because I know that she loves blue and white almost as much as I do.
I tore the jeans into strips, a couple inches wide, and created the top by improv piecing the strips together. Once I had the top all together, I wanted to add some decorative stitching and although I love hand-stitching, in order to "save time" I thought I would just quilt it on my sewing machine.
I quilted the whole thing on my sewing machine, but something wasn't quite right about it, so I decided to add a bit of sashiko style hand-stitching to the pillow top. Somehow, that "bit of hand stitching" became the whole pillow top being covered in hand stitching, and I spent an entire afternoon/evening in bed watching Netflix and stitching away.
I think it was worth it.
100% worth it. Don't you?
A beautiful new life for some real awful pairs of jeans.
